March Media Mentor Month 2019

Coming off of the success of this at our school last year, we have decided to do it again for 2019. The inspiration for this came from Keri-Lee Beasley and Daniel Johnstone as cited below on our image. We thank them for this inspiration!

A media mentor is like any other mentor, they’re someone who establishes a trusting relationship with a person in need of guidance and support as they learn how to navigate new media. March Media Mentor Month is an initiative intended to help parents negotiate online safety through mentoring their children in their online habits rather than controlling them through restrictions and strong arm threats of discipline.

The goal is to encourage parents and children to communicate and develop a shared understanding of the online world and develop positive relationships around digital technologies.

In line with our strategic focus on Digital Citizenship, this academic year, we strive to provide you with support in order to continue this learning and focus at home. We hope that teachers and families within the Cognita community and beyond can take part in this exciting event during the month of May focussing on using technology for good.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Enjoy more time to connect and engage with the people around you!

  • Hi. I would like more information (including maybe a legible version of the “March Media Mentor Month” image?) on mentoring our son regarding online. How can I get information? At the moment I see the calendar image but I cannot actually read it and I am hoping there is a bit more detail for each of the days. Also FYI when I click on the email link, it opens a new outbound email but does not populate the email address field.
    Thanks, Chris
