Safer Internet Day is fast approaching and will be held globally on Tuesday 5 February 2019.
We are a connected generation, everything we do is becoming more instant and more digitized by the day. With this change, comes the importance to be safe, and understand how to do the right thing and be a true positive digital citizen in a constantly changing digital world. The partnership between home and school is critical in developing these skills in our kids.
This year’s Safer Internet Day (SID) celebrations will take place on Tuesday, 5 February 2019. The 2019 theme, “Together for a better internet”, is a call to action for all stakeholders to join together and play their part in creating a better internet for everyone, and especially for younger users. More than that, it is an invitation for everyone to join in and engage with others in a respectful way in order to ensure a better digital experience.
You can follow the #SID2019 and #SaferInternetDay hashtags to find out more and also share what you have done. One way to begin is to partake in this twitter based global competition being run by Safeguarding Essentials. To enter, all your students have to do is complete a grid and tweet the entry from your school/teacher Twitter account. Please include @SafeguardingSGE and #SID2019 in the message. Entry is open NOW until Feb 1st.
I encourage you to discuss the importance of this day with your staff and students. Use the resources below for ideas. It would be great for you to share this with your parents at your school as well.
