Safer Internet Day 2018 – resources

Tomorrow, Tuesday 6 February, is Global Safer Internet Day.

We are a connected generation, everything we do is becoming more instant and more digitized by the day. With this change, comes an importance to be safe, and understand how to do the right thing and be a true positive digital citizen in a constantly changing digital world. The education of these skills has to come from our schools.

This year’s Safer Internet Day (SID) celebrations will take place on Tuesday, 6 February 2018. The 2018 theme, “Create, connect and share respect: A better internet starts with you” is a call to action for every stakeholder to play their part in creating a better internet for everyone, in particular, the youngest users out there. More than that, it is an invitation for everyone to join in and engage with others in a respectful way in order to ensure a better digital experience.

You can follow the #SID2018 and #SaferInternetDay hashtags to find out more and also share what you have done.

I encourage you to discuss the importance of this day with your staff and students. Use the resources below for ideas. It would be great for you to share this with your parents at your school as well. At the very least, send them to this blog post.

  • Hi Craig,

I have discounted my t(w)een DigCit adventure novel, Team Savv-i The 10 Secrets of Cyberspace for Safer Internet Day down to only 4 bucks!. The book is a fun way for young teens to discover how to be safe, savvy and social online. It also encourages them to leverage the Internet to do some good.

Schools can use the associated FREE eLearning program (demonstration site: https://sooced.com ) that aims to foster school community discussions about Digital Citizenship and incorporates the fine educational resources of Common Sense Media and others.

The book is available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/0987570404/ref=rdr_ext_tmb

The sequel, called Team Savv-i The Lipizzaner Stallions, which is all about teens learning to sort fact from fiction, is coming out in May. For pre-orders please visit: https://www.savv-i.com
