Mr Kemp NZ

A Global Project Request

My current role is to lead the integration of technology school wide. One part of my role is to work with teachers to help engage their students in creative and exciting ways. One of these ways is through global connectivity.

This week I have been working with our Foundation team of teachers. They teach students who are 5-6 years old and form the first ‘official’ year of school, bridging the gap between preschool and junior school. The students at this age are inquiring thinkers and LOVE to learn!

This term they are learning about people around the world. They are investigating the differences (and similarities) in people and have come up with questions that they want your help with. Their aim is to connect with classrooms in every corner of the globe.

Here is my challenge to you:

Create a short video with your students answering the following questions and send the link to me via email craig@mrkempnz.com or via Twitter @mrkempnz – we will then craft a response and connect with you, no matter what our time difference is!

You could upload your video to YouTube, Vimeo, or upload the video to dropbox or Google Drive and then send me the link. If possible we will organise a live Skype as well.

So …… do you accept the challenge to help my young learners connect with children all over the globe? Please forward this to every educator you know, create a video and RT this to support the love of learning in my community.

Your students can be of any age and you can be situated anywhere around the world …. Let’s see what we can do … Let’s test the power of a PLN and the power of global connectivity.

My aim = 15 video responses within the next 10 days (before the 1st May)

The students questions are:

  1. What grade are you in?
  2. How many children are in your school?
  3. What do you wear to school?
  4. How many people are in your families?
  5. What do you do when you get home from school?
  6. Who does the cooking in your family? What do they like to cook?
  7. Who does the cleaning in your family?
  8. What do you do on the weekend?
  9. What type of house do you live in?
  10. What’s an important celebration you do with your family?

  • Happy for my Y6s to connect … Can do this through Google drive but unsure how to send the link…do I just copy the http thing? Sorry, ignorant alert but would love for them to connect…we’re looking at footprints, leaving a mark, graffiti…etc. have a good term.

  • Hey Craig,

Just saw your post about a global connectivity, and found that it aligns greatly with the work I’m doing for LumenEd, a social enterprise connecting students around the world.

Our Video Pen Pal Program makes meaningful cultural exchange (through year-long, weekly video conversations) possible between classrooms in the U.S. and classrooms in India, Ghana and Senegal. We’ll be starting our new cohort this fall, and would love to have your teachers come on board and add more diversity to our international exchanges! Do take a look at http://www.lumened.org/penpal, and I’d love to hear from you if you find it interesting.

    Thanks for your time,
    Saksham

  • Hello! Mr. Craig

Nice to see your passion towards global learning and tends to accept the challenge as I myself is very fond of innovative and enthusiastic worker and keeps interest in Global Learning. But I believe all the videos which you will be getting from various countries, will be accessible to us also. In a way we need some time for this video shoot and will be able to send latest by 10th May.

  • My pupil Digital Leaders are in the middle of a challenge at the moment, which they also have to submit by 1st May, but if we have time I’m sure they would love to have a go at this. I’ll keep you posted!

  • Our grade 1s (age 6) created some videos for you. Unfortunately, I never received one group’s work. We will be a little late but will it to you on Monday (Toronto time)…
