Creating e-readers using i-Movie

So after a week of inspiring learning at U-Learn in Rotorua I got back and decided that I needed to share my passion with my student’s straight away. As you read on Wednesday we created ShowMe video’s of what we know about addition and subtraction on the iPads. Also this week we created e-readers.

On the first day back for Term 4 (Tuesday) we went to the library and in addition to their novel challenge books the children got into groups of 2-3 and got a picture book out that they really loved or remembered from when they were younger.

We had a discussion about e-books and watched a few examples on you-tube and talked about what it takes to make a GREAT e-reader. We created a class rubric and split into our groups to make the books.

The challenges we faced were quiet spaces to work in and reading with expression. My class are perfectionists and really wanted their first goes to be GREAT – what a fantastic quality to have but we wanted them published online by Friday so for their first turns at doing this I was pretty impressed at how quickly they came together.

The children scanned or took photos of each page of their books and then inserted the still images into i-movie. From their they voiced over the pages to read the story to their target audiences (most of which were the junior children in our school).

Once completed we uploaded them to You-Tube and then embedded them on our wikispace – http://weareroom1.wikispaces.com

The children recorded all of the reading with the in built mic on the apple macbooks – in future we will probably use plug and play mic’s and do a lot more pre-planning.

Check out the youtube clips below – The children would love your feedback and support – they are an amazing bunch of learners. Please leave feedback either on the wiki, on here or preferably on the you-tube clips.
